CT Lottery Supports National Problem Gambling Awareness Month 2016Consistent with its ongoing commitment to responsible gambling, the Connecticut Lottery Corporation is supporting National Problem Gambling Awareness Month, March 2016, with initiatives designed to raise awareness of problem gambling and open up discussions about prevention, identification, treatment and recovery.

“Gambling problems can affect the entire family, which means we all have a critical role to play in addressing gambling addiction—by having the conversation,” said Anne M. Noble, President and CEO of the CT Lottery. “Family members can ‘have the conversation’ with those who show signs of gambling disorders. Individuals who find that gambling is causing negative consequences in their life can also ‘have the conversation’ with gambling helplines, which can direct them to valuable resources.”

If you or someone you know has a gambling problem, call the Problem Gambling Helpline at 1-888-789-7777, a free, 24-hour service established for the purpose of obtaining information, support and referrals to persons impacted by problem gambling.

To be a part of the effort to start a conversation about gambling responsibly, share the CT Lottery's "Have the Conversation" message on Facebook or Twitter #HaveTheConvo.

The CT Lottery’s commitment to responsible gambling is reflected in various corporate responsibility initiatives. The Lottery’s efforts to support responsible gambling during the past year included:

• Participating and contributing to the CT Council on Problem Gambling Annual Conference.
• Participating in the annual holiday responsible gambling campaign sponsored by the National Council on Problem Gambling and the International Centre for Youth Gambling Problems and High Risk Behaviors at McGill University.
• Reminding educators and parents of the impact that gambling problems can have on families, through messages placed in the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education (CABE) Journal and Connecticut Parent Magazine.
• Encouraging increased awareness of Lottery retailers through an online Retailer Responsible Gambling Quiz, as well as a training video, for which the CT Lottery was recognized at the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries (NASPL) Annual Conference and Trade Show.
• Publicizing responsible gambling information in the CT Lottery's newsletter “Chatter that Matters™” for which it won an award at the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries (NASPL) Annual Conference and Trade Show.

The CT Lottery’s support of National Problem Gambling Awareness Month (PGAM) this year will include a variety of marketing and promotional public service ads to increase awareness. Materials will be available in-store on its website, and on the CT Lottery’s social media sites.

Since 1996, the Lottery has provided $28,648,000 to the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services Chronic Gamblers Treatment and Rehabilitation Fund. In fiscal year 2015, the CT Lottery contributed $2.3 million to the fund.

The CT Lottery is also part of the CT Partnership for Responsible Gambling and the Gambling Awareness for All of Connecticut.
