POWERBALL® FAQs

Power Play is an add-on feature available for an additional cost of $1 per wager. This feature offers the chance to multiply non-jackpot prizes by 2, 3, 4, 5, or 10 times. (The 10 times multiplier is available for selection for jackpots of $150 million or less.) The Power Play number is randomly selected just before each drawing.

The odds of matching only the Powerball number involve a combination of two probabilities:

1. Not matching any white ball numbers; and
2. Matching only the Powerball number.

When these two probabilities are considered together, the odds of matching only the Powerball number are calculated to be 1 in 38. This takes into account the specific combination of events required to achieve this outcome, rather than a straightforward 1 in 26 chance, which might be expected based on the total number of Powerball numbers.
No. Although Powerball is a multi-state game, Powerball tickets must be claimed in the same state or jurisdiction in which they were purchased.

Powerball is a multi-state lottery game that is offered in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Visit powerball.com for a current listing of participating states.
