Mega Millions® to Become Even More Mega, Starting October 19Starting October 19, 2013, Mega Millions players will see some “Mega” changes made to the game, including larger starting jackpots, faster growing jackpots, a $1,000,000 second prize, and better odds of winning any prize—all for the same $1 ticket price.

“The changes that are being made to Mega Millions will create excitement among our players,” said CT Lottery President and CEO, Anne M. Noble.  “With all the new game enhancements, we expect even faster growing jackpots, and more opportunities to create new Lottery millionaires.”

Mega Millions drawings will still consist of 5 “white” balls and 1 “yellow” Mega Ball, for a total of 6 winning numbers.  Under the game’s new matrix, the number of white balls will increase to 75 and the number of gold balls (the Mega Ball) will decrease to 15.  The result will be overall odds of just 1 in 14.7 to win any prize.

More about the newly enhanced Mega Millions game:

• The minimum jackpot will increase from $12 million to $15 million.  Jackpots will grow by at least $5 million after each drawing in which the jackpot is not won.

• The second prize payout for matching the first five numbers will increase from $250,000 to $1,000,000.

• The Megaplier®, a multiplier option which players can purchase for an additional $1 to increase their non-jackpot prizes, will be expanded to include a 5X multiplier.  Players that correctly match five white ball numbers can win up to $5,000,000!

• Drawings are held every Tuesday and Friday evening at 11:00pm.  Odds of winning the jackpot prize are 1 in 258,890,850.

Mega Millions is currently played in 45 jurisdictions: 43 states plus Washington, D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
