Suffield Man Wins $1.5 Million Lotto Jackpot Prize with Father’s Birthday Numbers
For many years, Bill Bailey of Suffield helped his father, who lived out of state, play his “family birthday” numbers in the CT Lottery’s “Lotto” jackpot game. Bill simply purchased the tickets on his father’s behalf. When his father passed away in 1989, Bill carried on the tradition and continued to play the same numbers faithfully in the twice weekly drawing.
On Tuesday, September 8, the winning Lotto
numbers drawn were 2-8-13-15-25-27. In total, 5,013 winning Lotto tickets were sold for that date with prizes ranging from $2 to $1,500,000.
Fortunately, Bill’s wife made sure to purchase their Lotto ticket for September 8—it was the very one that contained all six winning numbers for the game’s $1,500,000 jackpot.
“I got up early, made some coffee and then checked the lottery’s website for the winning numbers,” Bill told Lottery officials. “I saw that the first two numbers were a match and then a third. With each correct number, my eyes got bigger and bigger. It was like a big sigh of relief seeing that we got all the numbers.”
The Bailey family’s good fortune marks the third Lotto jackpot win of the year. Payable as a 21-year annuity or a one-time cash lump-sum, Bailey opted to claim the jackpot’s cash lump-sum prize value in the amount of $1,180,175 (before taxes). The Baileys said that the long-awaited and unexpected windfall will give them something even more important—peace of mind and a sense of security in their senior years.
Fasmart #310, located at 801 Thompsonville Road in Suffield, will receive a $10,000 bonus from the CT Lottery for selling Bailey his jackpot winning ticket.
