It’s a Green Christmas for This New London $1,000,000 Powerball Winner!
The current weather forecast for Christmas Eve is rain, but one New London resident, William Acosta, isn’t too concerned—because after today he is seeing nothing, but GREEN!
The winning Powerball
numbers on December 20, 2014 were 14-15-19-31-56 the Powerball number was 5. Acosta’s “Quick Pick” ticket matched all five of the winning numbers, but missed the Powerball number. In total, 7,784 winning Powerball tickets were sold statewide for that date, with prizes ranging from $4 to $1,000,000.
“I checked the lottery’s website and thought I only had three numbers. Then I checked again and saw two more numbers matched,” Acosta said. “When I clicked the ‘Payout’ button and saw I won $1,000,000 I let out a big yell, put on my shoes, and went straight to a retailer to scan my ticket.”
At first, Acosta said he had no plans for his unexpected $1,000,000 windfall. Giving the question some further thought, however, Acosta smiled broadly and offered up a few ideas. “I’m going to get my mother a nice car, put some money in the bank, and maybe buy a small house.”
Since the new Powerball game began on January 15, 2012, Connecticut has sold 21 prize winning tickets worth $1,000,000, plus another 7 tickets that were “Power Played” for the game’s $2,000,000 prize.
Acosta purchased his $1,000,000 prize winning ticket at Montauk Avenue Liquor Store located at 207 Montauk Ave in New London. As the selling retailer, Montauk Avenue Liquor Store will receive a $2,500 bonus check from the CT Lottery.
