CT Lottery’s “4th of July $1,000,000 Super Draw” Top Prize Winner Steps Forward to Claim $1,000,000While traveling through Connecticut early last May, Richard and Muriel Salmon of Lloyd Harbor, NY, decided that they had enough of being stuck in traffic. “We were on our way home from our son’s engagement party. The traffic was terrible, so we decided to get off the highway to get something to drink,” Richard said. While making their purchase, Richard noticed a store advertisement for the CT Lottery’s “4th of July $1,000,000 Super Draw” game. “I saw that the odds of winning a prize were really good, so I bought a ticket,” Richard told lottery officials.
It turns out that Salmon’s odds of winning were far better than good. The six-digit number on his Super Draw ticket - 110989 - was ultimately the one randomly selected on July 4, 2013, as the game's $1,000,000 top prize winner.
“I had completely forgotten about the drawing until I accidentally stumbled on the ticket while cleaning out my wallet,” Richard explained. Entering the number on lottery’s website, Richard received a message. “It said, ‘Congratulations. You won $1,000,000.’ I just couldn’t believe it,” Richard said with a laugh.
On Monday, the Salmons arrived at CT Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill to claim their $1,000,000 prize ($683,000 after taxes), and shared it with their two children, who also live in Lloyd Harbor, NY. Richard Salmon, Jr., intends on purchasing a new house for himself and his future bride, and his sister, Kim Taglieri, will put the money towards the renovation of her family’s home. Muriel said that she and Richard were also very excited about their plans for their Super Draw prize win. “We’re looking forward to taking the [grand] kids on a vacation to the Atlantis Paradise Island resort in the Bahamas.”
Salmon’s $1,000,000 top prize winning 4th of July Super Draw ticket was purchased at Mobil Mart West #833, located at I-95 South in Milford. Mobil Mart West will receive a check for $10,000 for selling the ticket.
The ten $20,000 second-prize Super Draw ticket numbers were: 148999, 186447, 253340, 325071, 138522, 276933, 133801, 180568, 273837 and 272448. Seven of the ten $20,000 prizes have been claimed so far by David Alling, Bristol; Giuseppe Ambrosio, Jr., Norwalk; William Kirby, Bridgeport; James O'Neil, Milford, Joseph Surwilo, Rocky Hill; Dorothy Tonucci, Waterford; and Kathy Wells, Terryville.
