Michelle Howard Claims Second Highest Prize in “Lucky for Life” Draw Game
New Haven Woman Celebrates $25,000 Lottery Win with a “Happy Dance”
June 12, 2013 --
Sharing her exciting story at CT Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill, Michelle Howard of New Haven broke into a spontaneous “happy dance” while recalling the moment she learned she had won $25,000 playing the “Lucky for Life
” draw game.
“I had $2 and asked the clerk what game I could play. He told me to try ‘Lucky for Life,’ so I did. The next day, I came back to the store and scanned the ticket in a ticket checker. I thought I won $25, but I didn’t have my glasses on so I had the clerk double-check my ticket for me. His eyes were so big—he told me, ‘Congratulations…you won $25,000!’ That’s when I screamed, ‘I did it…I did it!’” said Howard laughing heartily.
Howard’s Lucky for Life “Quick Pick” ticket for the June 3rd drawing missed matching the Lucky Ball number, 8, but matched five of the winning numbers drawn; 2 - 10 - 36 - 38 - 39, a prize match worth $25,000.
Across New England, 56,900 winning Lucky for Life tickets were purchased for June 3. A total of 18,282 tickets were sold in CT alone with prizes ranging from $2 to $25,000.
For her Lucky 5 number match, Howard claimed a prize check for $17,075 (value after taxes). Howard purchased her winning ticket at Stratford News, located at 665 Honeyspot Road in Stratford.
“I still can’t believe it,” Howard told Lottery officials. “I’m going to get my car fixed, give some money to my kids and my grandkids; then put the rest in my 401K.”
