April 12, 2013 --
Yesterday morning, John Walker of Hamden bought a $3 CT Lottery “Win for Life 19th Edition
” instant game ticket at Snack Plus Deli in Hamden. Later that day, his life took a turn from the ordinary when he scratched the ticket and won an astounding top prize worth $5,000 a month, every month, for the rest of his life.
“The ‘Win for Life’ game has a long history as one of the Lottery’s most popular instant games because the value of its top prize can be extraordinary,” said Anne M. Noble, President and CEO for the CT Lottery. “A young person in their 20’s, for example, could conceivably claim more the $3,000,000 over the course of their lifetime.”
“We’ve had a lot of lottery winners over the years, but this is the biggest prize of all,” said Snack Plus Deli owner, Ronak Shah. “The winner is young, so he has his whole life ahead of him with a prize that is good for the rest of his life. We’re very happy for him.”
A lottery retailer since 2001, Snack Plus Deli, located at 1555 Dixwell Avenue, will receive a $10,000 bonus check from the CT Lottery for selling Walker his top prize winning ticket.
Win for Life 19th Edition’s top prize is paid as $5,000 a month for life, with guaranteed minimum total payout of $1,200,000, or as a one-time cash option payment of $1,000,000.
Walker, opting for the game’s $5,000 a month for life top prize, claimed his first of what he expects will be many prize checks at CT Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill yesterday for $3,416 (value after taxes).
