EB’s $1,000,000 Powerball “Quick Pick” Ticket is One of 66,463 Winning Tickets Sold Statewide on August 7
September 05, 2013 -- Yesterday afternoon, President and CEO of the CT Lottery, Anne M. Noble, officially presented a lucky group of 23 co-workers in the supplier quality department of the Electric Boat Company in Groton with a $1,000,000 ceremonial check to help celebrate their August 7 Powerball prize win. The group, which playfully donned the moniker “LUCKY 23,” officially joins Connecticut’s growing list of winners to claim the game’s “Match 5” prize.
“There’s a lot of excitement here today,” said the group’s spokesperson, Mark Byington, amongst all of the high-energy and commotion. “It’s a nice, little windfall for some of these guys. I’m very happy for all of them.”
The winning Powerball numbers drawn on August 7 were 5 - 25 - 30 - 58 - 59 the Powerball number was 32. The “Quick Pick” ticket, purchased by Byington on behalf of the group, matched the first 5 numbers drawn for the game’s $1,000,000 prize. In total, 66,463 winning Powerball tickets were sold statewide for that date, with prizes ranging from $4 to $1,000,000.
After the festivities, Noble shook hands while presenting each winner with their share of the $1,000,000 prize in a check for $29,695 (after taxes).
“We hope you all enjoy what you have won with a lot of happiness and good health,” said Noble addressing the group. “We love it when people play together—it’s all about fun.”
Since the new Powerball game began on January 15, 2012, Connecticut has sold a total of 20 “Match 5” winning tickets—15 tickets were worth $1,000,000, plus another 5 tickets that were “Power Played” for the game’s $2,000,000 prize.
The LUCKY 23’s $1,000,000 prize winning Powerball ticket was purchased at the Gas Mart “Citgo” station, located at 1004 Poquonnock Road in Groton. A lottery retailer since 2005, Gas Mart will receive a $2,500 bonus check from the CT Lottery for selling the winning ticket.
