
Sonja McPhail Claims First of Four Top Prizes in New $2 Instant Game
Bridgeport Woman Wins “Neon 2s” $20,000 Lottery Prize
June 18, 2013 -- Ticket sales began yesterday for the CT Lottery’s newest $2 instant game
Neon 2s, and lucky Bridgeport resident, Sonja McPhail was one of the first customers at Jimmy’s Liquors, located at 1312 Stratford Avenue in Bridgeport to buy a ticket. McPhail was also Neon 2s first $20,000 top prize winner.
“I scratched the ticket and saw the ‘2’ (symbol) needed to win a prize. Then, I scratched the prize area and saw $20,000,” McPhail told Lottery officials. “I couldn’t believe it! So, I showed the ticket to my brother and asked him to look at it. He said, ‘Sis…you won $20,000!’”
Today, McPhail arrived at Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill and received a prize check for $13,660 (value after taxes). McPhail looks forward to sharing some of the prize money with her family, buying a car and paying for a family reunion vacation.
For selling McPhail her $20,000 top prize winning Neon 2s ticket, Jimmy’s Liquors, will receive a $200 bonus check from the CT Lottery.
