Linda Westlake of New Milford joked with Lottery officials Tuesday that her fellow nursing co-workers call her “Lucky Linda” and now, after winning the $100,000 top prize in the recent CT Lottery “$1,000,000 Silver & Gold
” 2nd Chance drawing, no one could possibly disagree. Linda is, indeed, lucky. “I saw the mail sitting on the kitchen counter and the CT Lottery envelope. When I opened it up, and saw that I won $100,000, I couldn’t believe my eyes…I had to get my glasses,” Linda said with a laugh.
Of the 484,221 entries received for the game’s third 2nd Chance drawing on September 1, Linda’s entry was randomly selected as the drawing’s $100,000 top prize winner. In addition to Linda, 10 entrants won prizes worth $500 each, and 30 others won prizes worth $200 each.
Linda was joined by her husband at CT Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill to claim her check for $68,503 (prize value after taxes). “We have farm property up north that needs some work. Now, we’ll finally have some money to put into it,” Linda said.
Linda’s winning 2nd Chance Drawing entry ticket was purchased at Hit & Run, located at 52 Kent Road in New Milford. For selling the ticket, Hit & Run will receive a $1,000 bonus from the CT Lottery.
The $1,000,000 Silver & Gold instant game offers two ways to win a prize—scratch and win up to $1,000,000 instantly on the game ticket, or by entering non-winning tickets into one of the game's 2nd Chance drawings. Of the four 2nd Chance drawings, one still remains to be held. Players are encouraged to enter their non-winning $1,000,000 Silver & Gold tickets online, by mail, or by hand delivery to CT Lottery headquarters.
Of the instant game’s four $1,000,000 top prizes (paid as a 20-year annuity or lump sum equivalent), two have been claimed—by Janelle Davis of Waterbury on October 5, 2010, and the by Jorlady Nivar-Vizcaino of Norwalk on May 5, 2011.
