Dawn Rose Wins Cash5 Draw Game Top Prize on August 12
Southington Mother of Four Wins $100,000 Lottery Prize
September 01, 2011 -- Ever since Dawn and Tim Rose of Southington welcomed the arrival of twin daughters to their growing family, Dawn has played a selection of “
Cash5” numbers comprised of family birthdays.
While making a Cash5 “Advance Action” purchase, Dawn rummaged through her purse for an earlier unchecked Cash5 ticket and handed it to the clerk. “I was completely unaware until I heard the terminal say, ‘Congratulations.’ I thought maybe I won $100. When the clerk told me I won $100,000…I was stunned. I had to go to my car to calm down and gather my thoughts before I could drive home,” Dawn said.
The Cash5 numbers drawn on August 12 were 5 - 10 - 21 - 25 - 27. A total of 4,631 winning tickets were sold statewide for that drawing. Prize values ranged from $2 to $100,000 each.
Dawn, a special education paraprofessional at Thalberg Elementary School in Southington, collected a check at CT Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill for $68,300 (prize value after taxes). “We’re thinking about taking a family vacation to Aruba. We’re also going to put money away for the kids’ college,” Dawn said.
Dawn purchased her winning Cash5 ticket at Townline Discount Wines & Liquors on 1122 Meriden Waterbury Turnpike in Cheshire. Townline Discount Wines & Liquors will receive $1,000 from the CT Lottery for selling the ticket.
