Michael Welsh Wins $10,000 Prize Playing "Lucky-4-Life"
Meriden Man Keeps On Trucking With $10,000 Lottery Prize
August 30, 2011 --
Sitting at the kitchen table reading the newspaper with a cup of coffee, truck driver Michael Welsh of Meriden checked the winning Lucky-4-Life
numbers for August 22, 2011 and found he had a match. “I didn’t know how much I won; I figured maybe $100,” Welsh said. When he presented his Lucky-4-Life “Quick Pick” ticket to a lottery retailer, Welsh was told that it couldn’t be cashed there. “The clerk said that I had to go to lottery headquarters to cash the ticket and gave me the validation slip. It wasn’t until I walked away and looked down at the ticket that I saw it was worth $10,000. I couldn’t believe it,” Welsh told Lottery officials.
The winning Lucky-4-Life numbers for August 22 were 7 - 16 - 19 - 26. Welsh matched those four numbers, but not the Lucky Ball number, which was 8. A total of 8,181 winning Lucky-4-Life tickets were sold on that date.
Welsh was joined by his wife, Jeanne, to accept a check for $6,830 (prize value after taxes) at Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill. “This still blows my mind!” said Welsh with a laugh.
Welsh’s winning Lucky-4-Life ticket was purchased at Stop & Shop at 930 Colony Road in Wallingford.
