Mother and Daughter Share $20,000 Prize Winning Experience
July 21, 2011 --
Bernadine “Bernie” Mackiewicz of Bristol won $20,000 playing the instant game “20X the Cash 4th Edition
” and split the prize with her daughter, Mary. Mary surprised CT Lottery officials by preparing a handwritten account of the details of their unexpected windfall. “I’ve read other winner stories on the Lottery’s website (ctlottery.org) and we were so excited about winning that I wanted to contribute,” Mary explained.
Revealing three identical “star” symbols on the 20X the Cash 4th Edition instant ticket, Bernie immediately called Mary to help verify her ticket was a $20,000 top prize winner. “We saw three (matching) stars and got excited thinking we finally had a winner,” Mary said. “When we saw all those zeros, we could not believe our eyes.”
Recently, the mother-daughter duo each received a check for $6,850 (prize value after taxes) at the CT Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill. “I’m so glad to see my mom happy. The winnings will go to good use, there are always plenty of bills to pay, but some will be used for fun, too,” Mary remarked.
The winning ticket was purchased from The Milk Store located at 104 Wolcott Street in Bristol. The Milk Store will receive a $200 bonus from the CT Lottery for selling Mackiewicz her top prize winning ticket.
