Walt May, III, is $200,000 Winner in April 6th $221.7 Million Powerball Drawing
Hartford Jazz Musician Hits it Big, Wins $200,000 CT Powerball Prize
April 07, 2011 -- As the news spread that a winning Powerball ticket was sold at a convenience store in southern Indiana worth $221.7 million for the April 6, 2011 drawing, Hartford native and professional jazz and R&B musician, Walt May, III, discovered that the "Quick Pick" he had purchased for that draw date had a five number match worth $200,000.  “It’s just my time, I guess,” May told lottery officials with a grin.

Today, the sun is shining and May is certainly singing a new tune after successfully matching the first 5 numbers drawn in the April 6th Powerball game, 10, 18, 41, 55, 56.  May missed having the Powerball number of 15, but he still won an amazing $200,000.  Nationwide, 1,629,415 winning tickets were purchased for the April 6 Powerball drawing; 27,788 of those tickets were sold here in Connecticut.

May, an accomplished keyboardist and vocalist, arrived at CT Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill this morning with a fellow "Focuz'D" band member to accept a prize check for $137,000 (prize value after taxes).  “I’m going to buy a car, share some money with the kids, and the rest I’ll figure out later,” said May. “I tell you, I won’t be singing the blues anytime soon,” May quipped.  “I’m gonna jazz it up a bit!”

May purchased his winning Powerball ticket at Ace’s Smoke & Cell Shop located at 690-C Albany Avenue in Hartford.  For selling the ticket, Ace’s Smoke & Cell Shop will receive a $2,000 bonus check from the CT Lottery.
