Frank Parker of Bristol Wins "Emerald 10’s" Top Prize
A $10,000 Win Makes a Great Day for This Irishman
March 17, 2011 --
As a young boy, Francis “Frank” Parker of Bristol, was naturally proud of his Irish heritage—ironically, even the street he grew up on was named “Irish Road” in Collinsville, Massachusetts. This St. Patrick’s Day, Parker has another great reason to celebrate, thanks to a lucky CT Lottery “Emerald 10’s
” instant ticket. “I bought this ticket, and it turned out to be a $10,000 winner,” Parker told Lottery officials with a grin.
Just the other day, Parker, 78, stopped for gas at his local Food Bag, located on Middle Street in Bristol, and purchased a couple of St. Patrick’s Day themed lottery games—including a bright, green Emerald 10’s instant ticket. He tucked them away in his pocket, but it wasn’t until later that Parker remembered his tickets and decided to play them. “I saw I had a match, but I thought it was a $10 winner, until I scratched some more…and saw more zeros…and then the $10,000,” said Parker. “I couldn’t believe it.”
Parker arrived at CT Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill yesterday morning where he claimed his check for $6,853 (the prize value after taxes). “I’m looking forward to telling my grand-daughter when she calls next—she’s on vacation now in Dublin, Ireland.” With the prize money, Parker plans to buy a new TV. “The rest I’ll put away for a rainy day,” Parker said.
For selling Parker his top prize winning ticket, Food Bag will receive a $100 bonus for doing so.
