Bill Dobbin of Derby Wins “Shamrock Tripler” Instant Game Top Prize
Shamrock Smiles for $30,000 Lottery Winner
March 14, 2011 -- Luck bloomed big for Bill Dobbin of Derby yesterday afternoon when he uncovered a lucky “flower” symbol match on his $3 CT Lottery “Shamrock Tripler” instant ticket and won the first of four top prizes in the game—an unexpected windfall worth $30,000.
While waiting for an appointment with a potential customer, Dobbin, a carpenter, stopped at Citgo Mart, located at 208 New Haven Avenue in Derby and purchased a few Shamrock Tripler tickets to help pass the time. It was the last ticket that contained the $30,000 top prize winning combination. “When I saw the prize, I thought it was wrong,” Dobbin told lottery officials, “so I put the ticket down…waited a few minutes, picked it back up, and then scratched the whole ticket, before it really sunk in that I won.”
Today, Dobbin and his wife, Dawn, arrived at CT Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill where Bill claimed his check for $20,551 (the prize value after taxes). “It’s not that it’s a lot of money, but it definitely eases the burden,” Dobbin said. “I’ll pay down a little debt, finish a couple home projects, and then invest the rest.”
For selling Dobbin his top prize winning ticket, Citgo Mart will receive a $300 bonus for doing so.
