Hiram Peck, Jr. of Bethlehem Wins Game's Top Prize on Veterans Day
World War II Veteran Wins $100,000 Cash5 Prize
November 15, 2010 -- Hiram Peck, Jr. of Bethlehem arrived at CT Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill just days after Veterans Day, proudly wearing a "World War II Veteran" embroidered cap in honor of all those who served and have served our country. As a United States Air Force Veteran of World War II himself, it made the experience of winning the $100,000 "Cash5" draw game top prize on November 11, 2010, Veterans Day, especially poignant.

While perusing the morning newspaper over a cup of coffee, Peck made his usual check to see if the numbers on the Cash5 ticket he purchased for the night before matched those drawn for a win. Previously, Peck had matched three numbers. This time, all five numbers were an exact match.

The winning Cash5 numbers drawn on November 11 were 04 - 14 - 24 - 29 - 33. "I've been playing the same numbers everyday for probably ten years," Peck told lottery officials.

After accepting his check for $68,500 (the prize value after taxes) from Lottery officials, Peck said he knew exactly what he wanted to do with the prize. "I have three children, so I will be sharing this with them." There's one more thing Peck planned to do...to keep on playing the same Cash5 numbers.

It is interesting to note that after serving in the war, Peck was an enlisted member of the United States Air Force Reserve for 35 years. During that time, he also owned and operated the Woodbury Flower Shop in Woodbury for 45 years.

Peck's top prize winning ticket was purchased at Sunnyridge Supermarket on South Main Street in Bethlehem. A bonus of $1,000 is awarded to retailers in good standing that sell Cash5 top prize tickets.
