Skip Consavage of Ridgefield Is "CT’s Newest Lottery Millionaire"
CT Welder Multiplies $200,000 Powerball Prize by 5, Wins $1 Million
August 23, 2010 -- Skip Consavage of Ridgefield became "CT’s Newest Lottery Millionaire" on August 21, 2010 when he successfully matched the first 5 Powerball numbers drawn, 07 - 10 - 12 - 22 - 27, but missed the Powerball number 26. The Power Play multiplier was 2.

Because Consavage added the “Power Play” feature to the purchase of his Powerball ticket for an extra $1, his $200,000 prize was automatically multiplied by 5 for a spectacular $1 million win ($685,214 after taxes).  “I scanned my ticket with the ticket checker, and it said I won $1 million…I thought it was a mistake,” Consavage told lottery officials.  “So, I asked the clerk to rescan the ticket.  It still said I won $1 million.  I couldn’t believe it.”  Consavage purchased his winning ticket at Budget Liquor Shop, 542 West Avenue, Norwalk.

Joining Consavage in his Match 5 victory was lucky winner Joanne Labbie of Southington.  Labbie also matched the first five Powerball numbers drawn on August 21 by playing her three daughters’ birthdays; she won $200,000 ($137,000 after taxes).  The money couldn't have come at a better time either. "Two of my daughters are engaged, and the other one will be getting engaged, so we have three weddings coming up and it'll be very helpful," Labbie said.  Labbie purchased her ticket from Stop & Shop, 505 N. Main Street, Southington.

Nationwide, 667,260 winning tickets were purchased for the August 21, 2010 Powerball drawing, 15,861 of those tickets were sold here in Connecticut.

Budget Liquor Shop, Norwalk and Stop & Shop, Southington will each receive a $2,000 bonus check from the CT Lottery for selling the winning tickets.
