Valentine's Day Card Holds Sweetheart of a Prize! Cheshire Resident Wins $20,000 Top Prize
February 17, 2010 -- While enjoying a Valentine’s Day dinner with family, Allan Young of Cheshire received a holiday card from his wife containing one of CT Lottery’s newest $2 instant games, "Triple Diamonds."  The meal was great, but the ticket drew an even bigger response around the table when it revealed a winning number match worth $20,000.

After scratching the ticket, Young told family members that he thought he won $20,000; they encouraged him to have the ticket checked by a lottery retailer to make extra sure. “They didn’t believe that it could be a winner, but it looked like a winner to me,” Young told lottery officials.

Today Young arrived at arrived at lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill to claim his check for $13,700 (prize value after taxes). “Sometimes you just get lucky, you don’t know why,” said Young.

A dairy buyer for a major supermarket chain, Young plans to put some of the prize money towards a home remodeling project and share the remainder with his children. Young’s top prize winning ticket was purchased at Everybody’s Food Market located at 1021 South Main Street in Cheshire.
