Evan Nelson of Branford Wins $10,000 on CT Lottery "Lucky-4-Life" Game
Lucky-4-Life Win Makes Back to School Easy for Local College Student
September 14, 2009 --
Nelson, a college student at Gateway College, purchased a "Quick Pick" ticket for the August 20, 2009 drawing of "Lucky-4-Life," the CT Lottery's newest and fastest growing drawing game, in which grand prize winners can win as much as $2,000 a week, EVERY WEEK, for the rest of their lives.
Putting his ticket away, Nelson forgot about it until he and several co-workers won $7 on a Powerball ticket they purchased together. Pulling out his Lucky-4-Life ticket, Nelson had a co-worker scan it for him and thought the receipt printed by the Lottery terminal with the words, "Congratulations! Claim Receipt $10,000!" on it was a good-natured joke being played on him. Comparing the numbers on his ticket to an official "Winning Numbers Report," Nelson realized he'd become another in a rapidly growing list of $10,000 winners for the game.
Nelson's ticket matched 4 of the Lucky-4-Life numbers drawn on August 20 - 06-14-25-31- but did not match the Lucky Ball of 34. That 4-number match landed him the $10,000 second prize ($7,000 after taxes).
As for plans for his lucky windfall, Nelson was unsure. He's a college student, and for now, he's decided to put the prize money into the bank and is considering the purchase of a car to help him commute to work and school.
And how does he feel about his good fortune that matched 4 numbers but not the Lucky Ball? "Four is nice, one more would have been, most excellent!"
In his job as a clerk at a Stop & Shop grocery store "Customer Service Center" where CT Lottery tickets are sold, Branford's Evan Nelson often has the opportunity to tell customers who buy a chance on lottery games that they are a winner. But, he never expected to become the recipient of that same good news.
