$25 Million Powerball Lottery Windfall for Newington Resident

Earlier today, Newington resident Rahul Patel claimed a $25 million Powerball
Jackpot prize won on June 27, 2009. Patel was the single jackpot winner for that night’s drawing.
Nationwide, 520,480 winning tickets were purchased for the June 27, 2009 Powerball drawing, 15,242 of those tickets were sold here in Connecticut. From the more than half a million winning tickets sold, only one matched all six numbers correctly, resulting in the multi-million dollar win for Patel.
Patel’s ticket was a $1 Powerball Quick Pick purchased at Sam’s Food Store, 1149 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford.
The winning numbers on Patel’s ticket were 18 - 22- 26 - 39 - 48 and a Powerball of 17. Power Play multiplier number is 4.
Opting to take the prize as a one-time cash lump sum, the winner received a prize of $12,506,253.13. Following the deduction of state (5%) and federal (25%) income taxes from the lump sum value, Patel received a check for $8,754,377.13.
